Local doctors advised Thompson鈥檚 mom that he would need to be amputated below his right knee as it would not be able to bear his body weight because he was born missing bones in his legs and foot.

However, after a visit to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Portland, Ore., they discovered they could lengthen his leg through different surgeries. Full of relief and gratefulness to Shriners, Thompson鈥檚 mother decided to collect the aluminum tabs off the tops of cans which the hospital recycles for money.

The leadership class was amazed by their support to Shriners and decided to join in. The class took an extra step during regular recycling and pulled the tabs off every can collected.

Thompson鈥檚 mother brought Thompson into the class to receive the tabs collected and to introduce themselves to the students.

The students decided to invite the school to support Thompson and Shriners Hospital by asking for every tab they can get their hands on. They brought a large bucket to fill with tabs as a challenge to see how many Rutland Seniors can collect.
