After opening the outdoor area last summer, Folktale Fine Cider in Oyama is now entirely open for 2025 with a brand new tasting room.

"We have officially opened Folktale Cider for the season," said Christine Weber, who co-owns the cidery with her husband, Blain.

After opening with an outdoor area, which includes a 17-foot jumping pillow for kids to play on, the Webers went to work his winter to finish their tasting room/lounge.

"It was a lot [of work]," said Christine. "My husband, my dad, and I built almost everything you see here... we wanted to go for a real organic elegance I would say. We used a lot of trees from Oyama here, our tap tree is actually hollowed out where we pour our cider from."

The new indoor area was signed and built with the help of Christine's dad's company, Project Eight Construction, and also features multiple tables as well as a variety of different seating areas. 

The duo also focuses on their facility being available for all ages to have fun so they built The Kid Cave into the tasting room, where their young kids played while they were building the new area. There are also dinosaur statues around the property. 

"Because we're family-friendly, we really wanted a casual atmosphere, which you don't find in a lot of wineries around here," added Christine.

In total, it's been a three-year journey to fully open Folktale Cider, according to the Weber's and they couldn't be happier to finally be opening for the 2025 season.

"It's the cozy clubhouse of my dreams," said Christine.

Oyama's newest cidery will feature eight ciders every month, four core ciders and four rotating ciders. There is a cellar down below the new tasting room which is where all the ciders are stored. Additionally, there are local beers from around the Okanagan on tap.

"He's a big advocate for all-natural, everything we do is balanced, it's not too sweet, there's no sugar added," said Christine regarding how the ciders are made.

As Folktale just opened for the season, there will be charcuterie boards with all local meats and cheeses as well as small snacks as food options with the plan of building the food menu out as the year goes on. 

Christine added the space has more of a cafe style than a winery vibe, which was the goal from the beginning as they wanted to be family-friendly. 

"You can't get a latte in Oyama and now you can," said Christine.

As for all the blood, sweat, and tears that have gone into the last year putting together the tasting room, and the last three years, the feeling of accomplishing the goal for the couple hasn't quite set in.

"It's not hitting me yet, it's just been so busy and overwhelming, it's amazing," said Christine.

Folktale Cider is located at 3950 Irvine Road and in April, is open Wednesdays-Sundays.
