A fundraiser to help a Summerland family has brought in more than $8,000.
The fundraiser was held on July 31 at Detonate Brewing in Summerland to help Morton Serbon and his family.
Serbon, a member of the Okanagan鈥檚 wine industry, was diagnosed with lymphoma, a cancer that attacks the body's lymphatic system.
While his treatments, first in the Lower Mainland and then in the Okanagan, have been covered, other expenses including medical travel costs were not. The treatments are expected to continue until November.
The fundraiser included a silent auction and a wine pull with proceeds to help the family.
In addition, Detonate Brewing donated $2 from each beer and $5 from each burger purchased at the event. This alone brought in $880 for the family.
The B.C. Wine Industry donated around 100 bottles of wine. Serbon has been involved in the wine industry for more than 16 years.
Morton Serbon expressed his deep gratitude to Detonate Brewing, their friends, neighbours and everyone from Summerland who came together to support their family.
In addition to the fundraising event, a GoFundMe online fundraiser had brought in $9,900, as of Aug. 23. Donations are still being accepted to help with ongoing expenses.
