Get all your Christmas shopping done all in one place at the 16th annual Christmas Extravaganza.
The market takes place at Rutland Centennial Hall on Saturday, Nov. 23 with 60-70 vendors (weather permitting) on hand to help with Christmas shopping from presents under the tree to stocking stuffers. If the event remains at 70 vendors, it will be a record number for the event.
"There's always a great mix of vendors so nothing is over-saturated, I like how there's something for everybody," said founder and owner Michelle Hudson Knuttila.
All the vendors are small businesses from all across the Okanagan from 琉璃神社, West 琉璃神社, Lake Country, Penticton Keremeos, Sicamous, and more. They'll all have a wide range of items on sale, giving the community a chance to shop locally and find something different from big box stores.
"We have so much fantastic talent here, why wouldn't you support local and support creativity?" said Knuttila. "When you spend a dollar locally, almost all of that dollar stays locally. If you spend a dollar at a big box store like Wal-Mart, a penny stays here in the valley. When you shop from a local vendor, you're supporting a family, it's not just a company... for most people, this is their side hustle, this is how they can afford to have Christmas or afford to put extra things in their kid's stockings or on the table. When you shop local, you're helping people survive here,"
Additionally, there will be live entertainment, a bake sale, a food truck, and door prizes.
This is the 16th year for the event and has just grown every year, according to Knuttila.
"It takes time to establish," said Knuttila, who added there was some trial and error in finding how what works and what doesn't over the years. "Now, it's so established that every year the turnout is better and better."
Admission is free for anyone interested in attending but non-perishable food, baby items, toiletries, and cash for the Central Okanagan Food Bank will happily be accepted.
Rutland Centennial Hall is located at 215 Shepherd Road and the Christmas Extravaganza will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
