A group of seniors in 琉璃神社 are completing a course today on the effects of hearing loss and what can be done to help.

The Society for Learning in Retirement is concluding with a guest lecture called Listen Up: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly About Hearing Loss.

The session with guest speaker Dr. Charlotte Jones it from 2 to 4 p.m. today in the Martin Centre at the Okanagan Boys and Girls Club.

Jones will speak about hearing loss and recent findings that its associated with poorer quality of life including loneliness and social isolation, depression, cognitive decline and dementia.

The event is being held in a classroom that has an Auras Hearing Loop installed, allowing them to hear better.

鈥淭he class intends to follow up the course by bringing the need for hearing systems in public buildings by contacting the provincial and civic governments as well as public venues.鈥
