A letter to council is paving the way towards a crosswalk honouring veterans in Sicamous.
At the Nov. 27 meeting, council received a letter from Richard Chmilar saying he would "strongly support" having a crosswalk painted in recognition of local veterans. He suggested one of the four crossings at the intersection of Main Street and Shuswap Avenue by the legion as a possible location.
Council asked operations manager Darrell Symbaluk about options regarding the proposal.
"I don't have a lot of detail on what exactly it would look like but... I could meet with Richard and see what he's got in mind," he said. "I know it's done in some place where they're doing the red and white for veterans, and possibly there's a spot by the legion."
Symbaluk will get more information and bring a plan back for council's consideration.
Chmilar's letter also suggested a crosswalk be painted in recognition of the many volunteers in the community, and that the banners hanging along Main Street feature pictures of Sicamous veterans and pioneers, though those points weren't discussed at the meeting.
