The District of Lake Country has won two awards from the BC Municipal Safety Association.

The community took home the 2024 Organizational Safety Excellence Award and the 2024 Occupational Health and Safety Employee of the Year.

鈥淚t takes a team of dedicated staff committed to a safe workplace for themselves and their colleagues to achieve this recognition,鈥 said Caroline Barnhart, District of Lake Country's manager of Human Resources and Safety. 鈥淲e take great pride in receiving this recognition for a fourth year in a row.鈥

The Employee of the Year award was presented to the municipality's Occupational Health and Safety specialist Sarah Goodwin.

鈥淚 am both honoured and humbled to be recognized with this award,鈥 said Goodwin. 鈥淏uilding a strong safety culture is a continuous endeavour. It takes great dedication, leadership, and teamwork, and I am fortunate to work with people who are truly committed to providing psychologically and physically safe and healthy workplaces. I am proud to see how far we鈥檝e come and the milestones we have achieved.鈥

The awards were presented at a conference in Penticton held Oct. 7-9.
