Stober Foundation has made a significant donation to help children get to play sports through the YMCA of Southern Interior BC's NHL Street Program.

A big boost from the Stober Foundation is set to help children aged 6-13 learn and play street hockey in the Okanagan.

On Friday, March 7, the YMCA of Southern Interior BC announced they have received 'a landmark gift' from Stober, which is intended to support the new NHL Street Program.

"We are definitely seeing a shift in our community,鈥 said YMCA of Southern Interior VP of marketing and philanthropy BC Tammie Watson. 鈥淲ith the high cost of living and growth in poverty rates across the Okanagan, many parents are having to refrain from putting their children in extracurricular activities, which can have a significant impact on a child鈥檚 growth and well-being. We are incredibly grateful for the Stober Foundation's support and their 3-year commitment to ensuring that all children and youth, regardless of their financial circumstances, can participate in this fantastic program."

While Stober's commitment is for three years, the amount of money being donated to the program could not be disclosed at this time.

"We are honoured to support the YMCA's NHL Street program and help make a significant impact in our community," said Stober Foundation president Ken Stober. "Our foundation is dedicated to supporting initiatives that create lasting change, and we are excited to see the benefits this program will bring to the children and youth in our community.鈥

Registration for YMCA members has began, while the non-member registration started on March 17. Financial assistance is available for those who can't afford it.
