Learning about arts and culture around the Central Okanagan is about to become easier.

On Tuesday, June 4, Creative Okanagan launched Heard About Harold, a free weekly newsletter that is 鈥渢he messenger on a mission to promote arts and culture in the region and celebrate its role in shaping healthy, flourishing communities.鈥

The newsletter will highlight all recently announced and upcoming events in the arts and entertainment world. The vision is to continually create a community that fully supports the arts, ensuring artists and creators no longer struggle to survive or compete for limited grant funding.

鈥淲e鈥檙e starting with a newsletter because we want to meet people where they are at,鈥 said Creative Okanagan executive and creative director Karma Lacoff Nieoczym. 鈥淎 lot of people don鈥檛 know where to find out about things that are happening, or they鈥檙e busy, so it鈥檚 just not on their radar. With a newsletter, we can try and make sure that anyone who cares about art and culture in the Central Okanagan has the opportunity to know what鈥檚 going on.鈥

The idea for the newsletter started in the early times of the pandemic as a way to increase cross-promotion as well as collaboration. Many regional arts and culture programs as well as Indigenous partners were part of the development process.

鈥淭he process of developing Heard About Harold has been detailed, meaningful, and thoroughly collaborative, and a diverse range of voices have been invited into the project at various stages,鈥 said Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art artistic and administrative director Lorna McParland. 鈥淚t has been a long process, and it is still ongoing. We are excited to launch to the public today and look forward to seeing how the community helps shape Harold鈥檚 future.鈥
