Hungry Kelownians were lined up down Enterprise Way throughout Thursday morning (Oct. 17) for the annual Maxine DeHart-United Way drive-thru breakfast at the Ramada Hotel. 

Breakfast started to be served at 6 a.m. but a few eager folks were lined up early to grab their food and donate to a good cause.

"It's been incredible," DeHart told Black Press Media. "They start lining up before 6 o'clock, our first at 5:30."

Throughout the morning, the lineup of vehicles seemed to go on forever, as hundreds of people grabbed Tim Hortons' coffee and breakfast and donated to the United Way.

"It's been steady," said DeHart, who was handing out stickers and trying to stop and talk to every single person who came through the drive-thru. 

Many sponsors of the event were on the scene with giveaways and offering windshield cleaning.

With inflation and other economic impacts over the last few years, DeHart admitted she was worried there would be a low turnout but was so proud of the community who came to the breakfast on Thursday morning.

"I can't believe it," said DeHart. "You always worry in times that aren't great, after COVID, you always worry about 琉璃神社 has come out, I'm so excited."

The total amount raised at the event is yet to be announced.
