Firefighters who lost their homes in the McDougall Creek Wildfire were given quilts in a special ceremony this past weekend.
The Orchard Valley Quilters Guild gathered their quilts that were on display at the Rotary Centre for the Arts and donated them to firefighters from Wilson鈥檚 Landing Fire Department.
鈥淥n behalf of the firefighters, we want to extend our sincere appreciation for the time, effort and talent shown by the members of the Guild,鈥 says Marianne Dahl, Wilson鈥檚 Landing Firefighters Association vice president. 鈥淎ll of the firefighters are very grateful for this wonderful gift of warmth, community spirit and giving that will be treasured for years to come by all the families who received them.鈥
More than 30 quilts were donated at Station 42 Fire Hall, with the firefighters getting to examine each one, talk to the quilters, and pick their favourite.
鈥淚t was our pleasure to donate quilts to the firefighters,鈥 said Shirley Fox, President of the Orchard Valley Quilters Guild. 鈥淔rom our hands to yours, the quilts are our way of giving each recipient an everlasting hug! Thank you for your community service!鈥
The ceremony followed the Wilson鈥檚 Landing Firefighters Association first Annual General Meeting. The association was formed shortly after the 2023 Grouse Complex.
Additionally, the Orchard Valley Quilters Guild plans to also donate to other community members who experienced loss in West 琉璃神社 and other communities.
