Senior cat reunited with original owner 16 years later in Penticton

Abby came to the SPCA shelter as a stray but thru her tattoo was reunited

As the saying goes, cats get nine lives and Abby, the 19-year-old stray from Kaleden can truly attest to that.

The senior cat was brought into the South Okanagan SPCA shelter in Penticton on Jan. 24, looking pretty dishevelled and not too happy. The staff at the SPCA posted a picture of her in hopes someone knew where she belonged.

Then on Jan. 30, there was amazing mews! Thanks to her tattoo, and after several homes over the last 16 years, she was able to be reunited with her original owner.

鈥淲e know this beautiful 19-year-old girl will be pampered through her golden years in life. Thank you so much for all the shares and attention to this poor old girl鈥檚 case. We couldn鈥檛 have hoped for a better outcome,鈥� posted the South Okanagan SPCA on Facebook.

The SPCA said reuniting Abby with her original owner shows how important permanent ID, like a tattoo or microchip, is to help reunite lost pets with their humans.
