Stroke survivor wins best truck at 琉璃神社 car show

Geoff Mitchell entered a restored 1978 Chevrolet C10

Hundreds of people gathered at Rutland Lion鈥檚 Park in 琉璃神社 on May 26 to check out trucks, cars, bikes, and even a helicopter on display for the annual Rutland Car Show.

Geoff Mitchell got the top number of votes in the truck category for his 1978 Chevrolet C10.

Mitchell鈥檚 partner Leanne said it took about four years to complete the truck restoration.

鈥淗e rebuilt it from scratch after he had a stroke.鈥

Having only finished the rebuild a few months ago, this was the first show Mitchell entered the C10 into.

Mitchell got teary-eyed as he was asked how proud he must be to have won.

The man restored cars before a stroke left him impaired and unable to speak at a normal pace. Leanne said Mitchell had to stop working, but still being able to restore vehicles gives him great comfort.

鈥淓verybody loves it,鈥 Leanne said of the truck. 鈥淲e are so surprised and happy.鈥

The car show brought out hundreds of vehicles for people to gaze at, including what organizers estimate was the largest number of motorcycle entries to date.
