Pancakes in exchange for toys. Monetary donations to the kettle.

The Vernon Elks Lodge #45 is putting on its third Santa鈥檚 Elk鈥檚 Christmas Toy Breakfast in conjunction with the Salvation Army in Vernon on Wednesday, Nov. 27. The event runs from 7-10 a.m. at the Elks Lodge, 3103-30th St.

"If you are a part of the Vernon community please come out and help support us in bringing Christmas toys to the children of families in need," said the Elks in a release. "We have some great entertainment to go along with the fantastic pancake breakfast!. Let's bring a smile to some sweet faces for Christmas this year."

The Elks work with the Salvation Army to supply Christmas toys to less fortunate families who cannot afford presents for their children. 

The event is headed up by Monica Tracey of Vernon, who also came up with the title of the much needed fundraiser. Cindy Palazzo and other members of the Elks are also working hard to help move the event forward and attract more members of the community to participate.

Everyone who comes to the event and brings an unwrapped toy will receive a free pancake breakfast. Guests can sit down to eat and watch the live entertainment, or take a To Go Bag with coffee upon request.

Musicians this year include Marv Machura, Gail Dawn Basnett, Seaton Secondary School Honour Choir, and some other great local talent. 

Also on hand will be Sniper, the official mascot of the Vernon Vipers, both Vernon radio stations, and, of course, what Christmas toy breakfast is complete without a visit from Santa Claus himself.

"Our wonderful photographer will take pictures of Santa with guests as well," said the Elks. 

Coffee and muffins are being supplied by Tim Hortons.

The Salvation Army of Vernon will distribute the donated toys to those families in need throughout the Vernon community.

There will also be a Salvation Army Kettle on site for people to donate money if they want to.  

Last year鈥檚 breakfast saw the Elks collect more than 200 toys for the children, and they would love to bring in more than 300 toys and attendees in 2024.

"We would love more volunteers and attendance this year," said the club.
