Here's to the historic marker!
It's National Historic Marker Day today, Thursday, April 24. Where would history buffs be without the roadside monuments?
The historic marker is a great chance to stop your travels, get out and stretch your legs, and learn a little of the local history.
According to the , there are four such markers in the North Okanagan, including the one in the accompanying photo of , submitted by the Museum and Archives of Vernon (taken around 1985, as the original St. Anne's Church is shown before its renovations).
The other three markers, according to the website, are "within 16 kilometers of this marker, measured as the crow flies" – , , and .
The Historical Marker Data Base website is a free, illustrated, searchable online catalogue of historical information viewed through the filter of roadside and other permanent outdoor markers, monuments, and plaques.
It has pictures, inscription transcriptions, marker locations, maps, additional information and commentary, and links to more information. Anyone can add new markers to the database and update existing marker pages with new photographs, links, information and commentary.
There are 5,480 markers in Canada listed on the site including 488 in B.C.

The marker at O'Keefe Ranch is no longer there.
Speaking of the ranch, the local attraction opens for the 2025 season with its Mother's Day Opening Weekend, Saturday and Sunday, May 10 and 11, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.
