Officially, the summer solstice arrives in 2023 just before 8 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21.
Solstice, schmolstice says the Downtown Vernon Association.
鈥淔orget summer solstice. In Vernon we celebrate the start of everyone鈥檚 favourite season at the Downtown Vernon Sunshine Festival,鈥 said DVA marketing manager Peter Kaz.
The 29th annual DVA Sunshine Festival is set for Saturday, June 17. The past two years, the DVA held a successful alternative called Sunshine 鈥楧ay鈥 that focused on the businesses (while working around regulations for events).
鈥淭his year, we are closing off six city blocks to transform 30th Avenue into a vehicle-free playground for both children and adults,鈥 said Kaz. 鈥淲hile showcasing our wonderful downtown businesses and a few outside vendors, you won鈥檛 get bored. Grab the squad and bask under the Okanagan sun (or cloud).鈥
The 29th Annual Sunshine Festival is presented by VantageOne Credit Union. It is a free event with free parking at all meters. Play games, meet mascots, listen to live music throughout, find new treasures, eat, dance, shop and so much more.
A sample of what you will see:
- The Food Zone which consists of food trucks, picnic tables w/umbrellas;
- The main stage for bands (on every hour from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.) and more;
- Children鈥檚 activities can be found in The Kids Zone (the 2900 block). Find games, music, a reptile show, face painting, illusionist, balloon animals and more.
鈥淎t noon LOOK UP! We have a special surprise for you,鈥 said Kaz.
View the DVA or social media for more details. Proudly presented by VantageOne Credit Union and supported by Nixon Wenger.
