The annual clean-up at the Penticton Channel recently led to the removal of more than 460 pounds of garbage.
Junior Chamber International (JCI) Penticton hosted the clean-up event on Sunday, Sept. 29, along the river.
While a team of scuba divers removed garbage from the water, around 40 volunteers from JCI and across the community cleaned the edges and walking paths.
A total of 462 pounds of garbage was removed, organizers said.
The event was sponsored Bannister Ford Penticton and Danny Reigh Real Estate, who teamed up to provide equipment and food for the volunteers.
"Many of our volunteers and scuba divers were pleased to comment that there is a lot less garbage along the edges and in the river channel than in years past," JCI Penticton said in a press release. "It鈥檚 so great to see the positive changes that our community is making."
