Harrington runs as independent in Penticton-Summerland riding

Retired dental practitioner addresses taxation, housing costs

An Independent candidate is running in the Penticton-Summerland riding for the upcoming provincial election.

Roger Harrington, now retired, was in private dental practice for 45 years.

He says his campaign in this election is driven by five core values, integrity, courage, freedom, passion and fun.

He also hopes to implement legislative reform solutions that reflect shared values and ensure a prosperous future for coming generations.

鈥滻 am committed to advocating for change through policies that are informed, effective, and most importantly, ethical,鈥 he said.

Harrington wants to propose easing pressures on British Columbians when it comes to housing and affordability.

鈥淲e need to get taxation under control and the current parties seem intent on relying on worn-out policies that are best described as don鈥檛 tax him, don鈥檛 tax me, tax that guy behind the tree,鈥 he said.

He adds that housing and affordability are among the top concerns of everyone. He suggests eliminating the Land Transfer Tax and cutting two per cent off the provincial sales tax to provide immediate relief for all British Columbians.

鈥淎s an Independent candidate, I am committed to representing the interests of our community and British Columbians without partisan constraints,鈥 he said. 鈥淚 believe in collaboration and transparency, and I look forward to meeting with constituents and in demonstrating how my experience and vision can contribute to a better Penticton-Summerland for everyone.鈥

The provincial election is scheduled for Oct. 19. There are six candidates in the Penticton-Summerland riding.

The other candidates in the running are Bradley Bartsch for the B.C. Green Party, Amelia Boutlbee for the B.C. Conservative Party, Tina Lee for the B.C. NDP, Independent Anna Paddon and Unafilliated Tracey St. Claire.
