Calling all filmmakers

Submit your work to be screened in front of thousands during the Reel Peach Festival Film Festival.

Calling all filmmakers, it鈥檚 time to showcase your work to the Okanagan.

During the 70th Annual Penticton Peach Festival this August, directors, producers and want-to-be filmmakers can submit their short movies to the third annual Reel Peach Festival Film Festival.

Taking place on the Peters Brothers main stage in Okanagan Lake Park from Aug. 9 to 13, before the main act plays at 9:30 p.m., the films will be previewed before an audience of thousands.

Peachfest president Don Kendall said in the past films have been well received and expand the entertainment value and diversity of the festival in Penticton.

Organizer Andrew Jakubeit says the festival is a great opportunity for filmmakers to have their movies showcased in front of such a large group.

鈥淭he community needs collateral to promote and celebrate the region with authentic experiences from different perspectives and Peach Fest had a time slot to fill so it is a win-win for all,鈥 he says.

鈥淲e live in such a beautiful area with multiple offerings and experiences for locals and visitors, plus with a burgeoning libations industry we need to showcase what we have at our doorstep鈥

The festival is open to professionals and wannabe filmmakers.

Jakubeit says there is a vibrant and active arts community in the region, so the hope is that will engage more submissions.

鈥淔ilms that are creatively artsy, funny, and less traditional or corporate than we鈥檝e seen in the past. I鈥檓 excited about this year鈥檚 opportunity build community pride and be entertained.鈥

Filmmakers can submit one to three minute short films in one of two categories.

Liquid Libations: any film short concerning Okanagan wine, craft beer, distillery, cider, or juice/soda.

Okanagan Experience: any film short showcasing an Okanagan experience (such as but not limited to arts and culture or tourism)

Festival entry deadline will be Aug. 6. For more information visit www.reelpeachfest.com
