The pool and aquatic area at Parkinson Recreation Centre (PRC) will reopen on Wed., Dec. 27 after a two-month closure due to boiler failures.
The issues were discovered during routine annual maintenance and affected three of the five boilers that provide heating and hot water to the facility, resulting in the closure of the aquatic area on Oct. 23.

The boilers have been replaced or repaired and building heat and hot water have been restored to the entire facility.
鈥淲e are so pleased that the boiler repairs were completed faster than our anticipated reopening date in January,鈥 said Mariko Siggers, community and neighbourhood services manager. 鈥淪taff have been working diligently over the last couple of months, repairing, testing, and preparing the new boilers so that our members and patrons can get back into the pool as soon as possible. A big thank-you to our entire community for their patience and understanding during this time.鈥
Residents are reminded that holiday hours are in effect at Parkinson Recreation Centre for the following days:
- Dec. 24: 8 a.m.-12 p.m.
- Dec. 25-26: Closed
- Dec. 27-29: 6 a.m.-5 p.m.
- Dec. 30: 8 a.m. 鈥 5 p.m.
- Dec. 31: 8 a.m. 鈥 4 p.m.
- Jan. 1: Closed
