West 琉璃神社 residents are asked for input on the city鈥檚 Community Wildfire Resiliency Plan (CWRP).

The plan will help enhance wildfire resiliency and prioritizing risk management where homes and buildings intersect with forested areas and is the primary wildfire risk reduction tool for B.C. communities.

The draft document contains 20 recommendations and priority mapped areas around the community.

鈥淭hose maps outline and prioritize wildfire mitigation activities that need to happen in the community over the next five years or so,鈥 Fire Chief Jason Brolund told council at its Oct. 22 meeting.

The plan identifies 60 areas from a 0.50 hectares city park to 1,000 ha. and are ranked in order of importance.

鈥淲hen people phone and say I think this area in my community needs to be mitigated we鈥檙e able to look at it and say it鈥檚 on the list but it鈥檚 number 55 of 60, or it鈥檚 not on the list,鈥 Brolund added.

The CWRP builds on the recommendations of the 2018 Community Wildfire Preparedness Plan (CWPP).

Residents are invited to an open house  to ask questions, learn about FireSmart practices:

  • Wednesday, Oct. 30
  • 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • City Hall, 3731 Old Okanagan Highway

More information about the CWRP is available on the city鈥檚 website or by calling 778-797-1234 to request paper copies.

Brolund noted that the final plan will be presented to council on Dec. 10.
