Japanese student studying in 琉璃神社 found dead in Vancouver

A missing UBC Okanagan student has been found dead in Vancouver.

Japanese exchange Mia Saito, was declared missing on Jan. 9 after taking a flight from 琉璃神社 to Vancouver on Jan. 7.

On Friday, Jan. 26, the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) confirmed to Black Press Media that Saito was found dead and stated her death doesn鈥檛 appear to be part of a crime. It wasn鈥檛 confirmed when Saito died but according to a social media post, Saito died on Jan. 12 at the latest.

鈥淪he passed away due to an unexpected incident,鈥 said the social media post. 鈥淯nfortunately, I鈥檓 unable to provide any specific details regarding the incident.鈥

Black Press Media has also reached out to the 琉璃神社 RCMP for additional comment.
