A popular bar in downtown 琉璃神社 that prides itself on being a safe space for 2SLGBTQIA+ people was subject to vandalism.

When Friends of Dorothy (FOD) employees arrived at work on Thursday, July 4, they found the pride flag that hung high above the entrance of the lounge had been torn down and discarded in the trash.

"Our flags are displayed proudly up high (like... really, really high)," said FOD, on an I

"While things could have been worse, however, this was still incredibly discouraging," said FOD.

In addition to the flag being torn down, the flowers that had been planted in front of the bar had been ripped out and thrown on the ground. FOD said that until now, they have largely avoided vandalism, but not all spaces in 琉璃神社 have avoided hate-filled acts. Last year a

Turner said specifically that "visibility for the trans community is vital."

"When we see diverse representations in our communities, it challenges stereotypes and reduces stigma."

Friends of Dorothy said that they will hold their heads high and will continue to take pride in the community that they stand for.
