UPDATE: Wildfire near Merritt being held

UPDATE 2:20 p.m.

The wildfire west of Merritt is now being held.

The Lauder Creek blaze grew to an estimated 14 hectares before being reclassified.

The Swakum Moutain fire has been has since removed from the BC Wildfire map.

ORIGINAL 9:15 a.m.

The Lauder Creek wildfire, located east of Merritt, continues to burn, classified as out of control.

Discovered Friday (May 10) evening, it has grown to nine hectares in size. The human-caused blaze, according to BC Wildfire Service, is located northeast of Nicola Lake, just off Peter Hope Road.

The Swakum Mountain fire, which burned 2.5 hectares in size, has been held. It was located eight kilometres up the Swakum Mountain, just west of Highway 5.

Its cause is still under investigation.
