The West 琉璃神社 Warriors have added some size and skill to their lineup for the stretch drive of the BCHL season.

On Wednesday, Jan. 10, the team announced the signing of 2005-born forward Carter Oakenfold.

This season in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL), Oakenfold scored nine goals and added 11 assists in 40 games for the Spruce Grove Saints. Over a career of 90 games in the AJHL, he collected 42 points total (18 goals, 24 assists).

鈥淥ur goal is to be the last ones standing this spring, and to do that you have to have players who can step up and play in any situation,鈥 said Warriors general manager and head coach Simon Ferguson, 鈥淐arter is a big body who has shown in the AJHL he can play in all situations. He has been to a league final and we are hoping that experience will pay off for us down the stretch.鈥

Standing at 6鈥3鈥, 174 pounds, Oakenfold has committed to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) for the 2024-25 season, joining new teammates Felix Caron, Landen Hilditch and Jackson Kyrkostas.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a privilege to join this organization and team, which I don鈥檛 take lightly,鈥 said Oakenfold, 鈥淚 look forward to getting to work every day and competing with my teammates and ultimately having an end goal of winning a championship here.鈥

Oakenfold will be wearing #24 and will make his Warriors debut on Saturday night as the team welcomes the Cowichan Valley Capitals to Royal LePage Place. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
