UBC Okanagan men's and women's golfers had impressive showings at Canadian tournaments July 9-13, 2024.

UBC Okanagan Heat men's and women's golf teams had a big showing at tournaments nationwide this week.

Five current or incoming golfers finished among the top 11 at every event.

On the men's side, rookie Ryan Gillis of Calgary carded a 10-under par 206 at the Alberta U19 Boys Championship.

Fellow rookie Julia Alexander-Carew of Oakville, Ont. got her third top-three finish, securing a tie for second at the Ontario U19 Girls Championship.

Rounding out the Heat's Top 3 results was Emily Cornwall of Calgary, taking third place at the Saskatchewan Women's Amateur Championship.

"I love following the success of our players during our off-season," said Heat head coach Clay Stothers. "Playing well at these big events should bring a lot of confidence to our players for the fall and gets me excited for what we can achieve in the upcoming season."

Incoming men's golf recruit Chris Jo finished 10th place at the Ontario U19 Boys Championship.  Senior Kayleigh Trowman of Port Stanley, Ont. finished tied for 11th at the Canadian Women's Mid-Amateur Championship in Courtenay.

Six Heat golfers will compete in several championships over the next three weeks.

Alexander-Carew plays in the Canadian Junior Girls Championship from July 22 to 25. Following that, Alexander-Carew, Cornwall and Lauren Nedo compete in the 110th Canadian Women's Amateur Championship in Victoria from July 30 to August 2.

Gillis, Jo, and Andrew Rouble tee it up at the 119th Canadian Men's Amateur Championship in Saskatoon Aug. 5 to 8.
