It鈥檚 been almost a week and the Soards Creek wildfire is still holding at just over 1,130 hectares.

The fire was first discovered June 3, and had grown substantially in the days that followed to become the biggest in the region. Steep mountainous terrain gave the personnel battling the blaze issues in containing it. Over the course of last week, more BC Wildfire Services personnel and equipment were dispatched to help contend with the blaze.

The wildfire, estimated to be 1,138 hectares, is now in its fourth day with no growth.

BC Wildfire Services worked hard last week with heavy equipment and air support to limit the growth of the blaze and were assisted by some overdue precipitation in the region.
