Construction of a roundabout on Silver Star Road will commence on April 22, and should be completed by the fall.

Vernon city crews will be hard at work following the long weekend, which will prompt road closures.

Construction of a new roundabout at Silver Star Road and Phoenix Drive will begin on Tuesday, April 22 at 7 a.m.

Road closures will start on Wednesday, April 23, as residents who typically use Phoenix Drive will be detoured through Foothills Drive.

Construction hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. with occasional weekend work, while Silver Star Road will remain open to through traffic.

The roundabout project involves several key upgrades including road reconstruction, new sidewalks and curbs, improved street lighting and drainage upgrades.

Additionally on Tuesday, a temporary traffic interruption will begin at the intersection of Alexis Park Drive and Gateby Place, to accommodate the construction of a watermain.

Construction will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, with potential weekend work.

For the initial construction phase, single-alternating traffic patterns changes and lane shifts at the intersection will take place. Traffic on 32nd Avenue to Alexis Park Drive will be detoured along 38th Street. Gateby will have a seven-day full road closure scheduled from April 25 to May 2.

Temporary access at the gates between Schubert Centre and Catherine Gardens will be provided to ensure continued access for delivery vehicles, garbage collection, and emergency services while residential and non-commercial vehicles will be able to use the access gate next to the Gateby Care Centre.

Transit stops will be closed on Alexis Park Drive. Visit bctransit.com for the latest updates.

City staff is reminding all motorists to be aware, exercise caution and follow traffic control measures.
