UBC Okanagan’s upcoming distinguished speaker Naomi Klein suggests we should forget everything we know about global warming. The truth, she says, is that it's not about carbon: it's about capitalism.

In her most provocative talk yet, Klein tackles the most profound threat humanity has ever faced: the war our economic model is waging against life on earth.

Klein argues that society’s addiction to profit and growth is the environment’s biggest concern. Climate change, she says, is a wake-up call, a powerful message delivered in the language of fires, floods, storms, and droughts. Confronting it is no longer about changing the light bulbs. It’s about changing the world.

Klein’s presentation, part of the UBC Okanagan’s Irving K. Barber School's Distinguished Speaker Series, takes place Thursday, Feb.18, 7 p.m., at the ÁðÁ§ÉñÉç Community Theatre, 1375 Water St

This event is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is required. Register online at or call 250-807-9950.
