Unable to prove who owned an abandoned dump truck creating a hazard on Highway 1 near Chase, the RCMP couldn't issue a violation in relation to the incident.

Chase RCMP investigated a hazardous situation after receiving reports of a dump truck ditched on Highway 1 just east of town.

At 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 12, the Chase detachment received a report from a caller concerned that a broken down vehicle abandoned on the highway could cause a collision. Officers attended the scene and located a 1970 Ford dump truck partially blocking one of the lanes.

The truck had no lights or reflectors, and was nearly invisible in the dark, creating a risk to vehicles travelling at highway speeds. Additionally, the truck wasn't insured and shouldn't have been on a public road in the first place.

Officers eventually made contact with a man who RCMP said "clearly had some knowledge of the truck but was evasive with police."

"He admitted having attempted to arrange a tow for the vehicle but said he didn't know who was driving it or who owned it," Const. Sarah Van Wilgenburg said in a media release. "He didn't want to be bothered with questions from police."

Unable to prove who was responsible for the dump truck, the RCMP couldn't issue a violation ticket for the incident.
