The Chopaka Rodeo is set to return for the 57th year on Sunday, April 20, and the association is dedicating it to the memory of a late local Elder.

Carrie Allison was a survivor of the Kamloops Residential School, and a supporter of a variety of community causes, including the rodeo.

A pillar of the community, Allison passed in November 2023 at the age of 92.

The competitive event at the Chopaka Rodeo Grounds south of Keremeos brings in riders from across the Okanagan and beyond, as well as big crowds of watchers.

The rodeo will have adult events — including calf roping, team roping, ladies barrel racing and bull riding — as well as junior events such as peewee barrel racing.

Admission is $10 for everyone, with kids 10 and under free.

The main events all kick off at high noon.
