As fall clean-ups continue throughout the community, 琉璃神社 city hall says more residents are dropping off recycling, waste and yard waste at the Glenmore landfill.
However, it says, some vehicles are arriving without covered loads, which can not only result in debris falling off vehicles it can also create a safety hazard for other vehicles driving behind, as well as pedestrians and cyclists on the road.
The city is reminding residents that loads to the landfill have to be tied or strapped down and covered by a tarp.
鈥淚t鈥檚 important that residents remember to cover and secure their loads regardless of how far they鈥檙e travelling,鈥 said Scott Hoekstra, landfill supervisor.
鈥淏ylaw enforcement staff have been monitoring and handing out fines to those who neglect to cover and secure their load."
He said there are also cameras located at the landfill to catch unsecured loads and those responsible could be fined.
The fine for an uncovered or unsecured load is $150 under the city鈥檚 Solid Waste Management Bylaw. Provincial penalties may also apply.
The Glenmore Landfill is located at 1595 Glenmore Road North.
It is open seven days a week from 7:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year鈥檚 Day.
