Dry forecast prompts notice of fire ban

Anyone who sees smoke or fire in any park should immediately call *5-5-5-5, the B.C. Wildfire Management Branch or 9-1-1.

Open fires are now prohibited in all zones of the Kamloops Fire Centre, including 琉璃神社, to help prevent human-caused wildfires.

The Kamloops Fire Centre says the burning ban was prompted by forecasted weather patterns of hot and dry conditions throughout the region. Currently, the fire danger rating ranges from moderate to high. Since April 1, Kamloops Fire Centre crews have responded to 36 wildfires.

Campfires and barbecues are not allowed in City or Regional District parks, with the exception of barbecues on beaches. Smoking is banned from all city and regional parks.

Anyone who sees smoke or fire in any park should immediately call *5-5-5-5, the B.C. Wildfire Management Branch or 9-1-1.

The Kamloops Fire Centre has the latest information on burning restrictions at http://bcwildfire.ca/hprScripts/WildfireNews/Bans.asp
