Four separate West 琉璃神社 fire stations responded to a blaze near Mission Hill Winery overnight.
The fire grew to approximately 200 x 200 metres in size, and crews were able to stop the advance of the flames within 75 metres of the winery.
According to Fire Chief Jason Brolund, a fire guard was built around the perimeter of the fire and all hot spots were extinguished.
鈥淵esterday, the fire danger rating in West 琉璃神社 reached a 5 or extreme. This is the highest rating,鈥 he warned. 鈥淐ampfire bans are normally considered following a period of at least three days at this level.鈥
As the weather is expected to remain hot in the coming days and in the face of the extreme fire danger, Brolund is urging the public to be cautious in the both the back country and urban areas.
The cause of the fire near Mission Hill was determined to be a smouldering burning barrel that was in use earlier in the evening.
