Lower Nicola cut off from City of Merritt

Flood waters force evacuations in the Lower Nicola region.

Rising water in the Nicola Valley has cut off the Lower Nicola community from Merritt as flooding forces the closure of Highway 8 in both directions.

As a result the Lower Nicola Indian Band (LNIB) has issued an evacuation order and an alert for certain areas.

Residents on Fyall Road have been ordered to evacuate.

Also some in the community of Cherry Creek are currently under an evacuation order do to rapidly moving flood waters.

While several residents in the Thompson-Nicola region have been placed on an evacuation alert due to flooding.

Those living in the vicinity of Guichon Creek south of Mamit Lake, Mill Creek and Upper Nicola areas as well as Cherry Creek have been placed on an evacuation alert.

A Reception Center will be established at in Kamloops at the McArthur Island Sports Centre, Lounge on the second floor.

All residents that have been evacuated must register with Emergency Social Services at the designated reception centre.

Those who have been evacuated should turn off the power and propane to their residences before leaving.
