The Abbotsford Police Department says no information suggests local schools are threatened after online posts circulated suggesting violence would occur on Monday (April 7).

In a news release, APD said it became aware of an email and social media posts shared among parents and the community that claimed acts of violence would target various schools in Abbotsford.

"[APD] is taking today's claimed threat of violence seriously and is currently investigating the origin of the messages. Currently, there is no information to suggest that this threat is real, and investigators believe this incident is yet another swatting attempt," the news release reads.

Police responded to numerous "swatting" calls over the weekend, falsely claiming that violence was occurring and people were in danger.

"Each call was assessed and responded to by [APD] and all were determined to be false," the department said.
