The Ministry of Children and Family Development was notified after Salmon Arm RCMP pulled over an intoxicated driver accompanied by his child.
On Sunday, July 28, police received a report of a possible intoxicated driver in an eastbound white diesel pickup truck that had just passed through Tappen on Highway 1. Salmon Arm RCMP located the vehicle and watched as it turned off the highway in what was believed to be an attempt to evade police, said Const. Andrew Hodges in a media release.
"Salmon Arm RCMP were able to intercept the vehicle, and watched it turn off Hwy. 1, suspected to be an attempt to evade police, as it then went around the round-a-bout and went back onto Hwy 1 again, still east bound."
Police engaged in a traffic stop and found the truck's 31-year-old male driver appeared to have slow, slurred speech.
The driver's child was also in the vehicle. The driver received a "fail" on two breath demands, and was served a 90-day driving prohibition, while the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
"The man鈥檚 ex-spouse picked him and their child up," said Hodges, noting the matter was referred to RoadSafetyBC as well as the ministry, "due to the age of the child and the endangerment they were placed in."
