Sea critters visit Okanagan museum

Okanagan residents are getting their hands on some sea critters.

The Vancouver Aquarium is travelling across Canada with a horde of sea urchins, sea cucumbers and more for Canada鈥檚 150.

They鈥檒l be making a stop at the Okanagan Heritage Museum, Saturday, April 8 so 琉璃神社 locals can get their hands inside their 鈥渧an.鈥

鈥淭he curriculum-based programming will cover topics including local history, connections to First Nations and regional environmental issues, all while interacting with unique sea life from B.C.鈥檚 coastal waters,鈥 according to a museum release. 鈥淪ea stars, urchins, sea anemones, crabs and sea cucumbers are among the curious Pacific coast creatures that will make their way from coast to coast between now and October, engaging people of all ages at the 150 stops it will make.鈥

The exhibits will be set up in the museum.

鈥淭hey had actually approached us and we were so happy that they could stop here, it was a no-brainer because it鈥檚 a once in a lifetime opportunity,鈥 said museum education and programming coordinator Jen Garner.

The event will also have a shoreline cleanup, where members of the museum will supply the public with bags and gloves to clean up the downtown beaches.

The AquaVan will be at the museum from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with the shoreline cleanup from 2 to 3 p.m.
