The Emergency Response Team was called to diffuse a tense situation in Spallumcheen Thursday night.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP said a report around 10:20 p.m. March 27 was received that a man allegedly armed with a weapon was threatening another person inside a home, refusing to let them leave.

Officers initially made contact with both the victim and suspect in the McLeod subdivision.

"Eventually, both exited the house and the victim was able to get to safety," media relations officer Const. Chris Terleski said. "The suspect ignored the direction of the officers and went back inside the house, refusing to come out."

Given the heightened risk, assistance was sought from the RCMP鈥檚 Critical Incident Program and members of the RCMP's Southeast District Emergency Response Team were deployed to the scene.

At approximately 2 a.m., the suspect exited the residence and surrendered to police.

A 48-year old Spallumcheen man faces a number of potential Criminal Charges in relation to the incident.

He is currently in custody and is expected to appear in court later today.
