A Salmon Arm driver's attempt to evade police failed, as did his roadside breath test.
At 11 p.m. on March 15, an RCMP officer on patrol noticed a grey GMC Sierra pickup truck speeding on 30th Street NE. When he turned his emergency lights on, the truck made several turns that led the officer to believe the driver was trying to avoid police.
"Once stopped, the 41-year-old male driver stated he was heading to pick up his girlfriend," Const. Andrew Hodges said in a media release. "An odour of fruit flavoured liquor was detected by the officer, despite the driver denying consuming any alcohol that day.
A breath demand was conducted in which the driver blew a "fail" and declined the offer of a second test. He was served a 90-day driving prohibition and had his truck impounded for 30 days, while "police later observed several empty alcohol containers within the door of the vehicle."
The matter has since been referred to RoadSafetyBC.
