A Summerland man set to be sentenced for slamming a man to the ground had a warrant issued for his arrest on March 11.
Garret Cole Sedawie did not appear in Penticton Provincial Court to hear his fate after he was found guilty in June of 2024 for tossing his victim to the ground in the middle of Summerland on Nov. 26, 2021.
The judge presiding over the case rejected Sedawie's attempts to defend himself on the stand.
Sedawie had claimed that he was nowhere near his victim, and that the victim had been so focused on glaring at him that he tripped and fell, injuring himself.
鈥淢r. Sedawie鈥檚 evidence was convoluted and often non-responsive to the questions asked of him,鈥 said the judge in his reasons for finding Sedawie guilty. 鈥淗is evidence was sometimes hard to follow but very detailed and sometimes his evidence didn鈥檛 make sense.鈥
Sentencing was scheduled separately from the decision in order to prepare a psychiatric report on top of the standard pre-sentencing report.
During the trial on May 23, Sedawie went on rants about conspiracies involving everyone from his victim, to his family, ex-girlfriend and the police.
Those conspiracy theories and rants derailed a separate trial for charges of assault with a weapon and mischief under $5,000 related to an incident in August 2021.
A fourth trial date has currently been scheduled for that matter on April 14, 2025.
