Video surveillance sourced from a Salmon Arm mall helped police with the arrest of suspects connected to a theft from one of the mall's stores.
On Thursday, July 25, an employee of an electronics store in a mall on 10th Avenue SW reported to police two young men had stolen "an outdoor speaker and light speaker valued at $300," explained Const. Andrew Hodges in a media release.
Police obtained photos from surveillance footage provided by other stores in the mall, and quickly located the suspects at a nearby fast-food restaurant, said Hodges. The two were arrested and the speakers recovered.
"The store was notified, who only wished to have the products returned and did not wish to pursue charges," said Hodges, adding both suspects were banned from the mall.
The suspects said they were homeless, and from another community. Hodges said police offered to connect them with social assistance programs to help get them back on their feet, but both declined.
