Take away a windy April Saturday in Oliver, and Armstrong’s DJ Crowe had been agonizingly close to his first Private Sky Aviation Zone 2 Junior Golf Tour victory in 2024.
Three fourth-place finishes, a fifth and a sixth – to go along with a forgettable tie for 16th at Nk’Mip Canyon in Oliver – in five of the first six tournaments on the Zone 2 schedule.
May the fourth was with the Grade 10 Pleasant Valley Secondary (PVSS) student.
Crowe shot an even-par 71 at Black Mountain Golf Course in ÁðÁ§ÉñÉç Saturday to post a three-shot victory over a trio of opponents, including Vernon Golf and Country Club mate Kobe Menzies, Lachlan Bibby-Fox of the ÁðÁ§ÉñÉç Golf and Country Club, and Markus Hopley of Gallagher’s Canyon in ÁðÁ§ÉñÉç for the tour victory.
Sam Hager from ÁðÁ§ÉñÉç’s Okanagan Golf Club was fifth at four-over.
Crowe’s impressive weekend continued on Sunday, May 5, when he finished second in the Juvenile Flight Class – third overall in the touranment – with a 1-under 71 at the ÁðÁ§ÉñÉç Golf and Country Club. He was three shots behind ÁðÁ§ÉñÉç’s Finley Dober of Gallagher’s Canyon in the flight.
Crowe’s result also landed him a spot on the Zone 2 team that will compete July 17-21 at the BC Summer Games in Maple Ridge.
Tyson Wicklund from the Vernon Golf and Country Club tied for 13th at Black Mountain, firing a 9-over-par 80.
The Zone 2 Junior Tour regular season wraps up this coming weekend with stops in Kamloops at The Dunes Saturday, May 11, and the Kamloops Golf and Country Club on Sunday, May 12.
The tour’s Junior Club championship weekend is slated for Saturday and Sunday, June 1 and 2, at Gallagher’s Canyon.
There are no stops in the North Okanagan or Shuswap on the 2024 calendar.
Crowe has won three high school events thus far in 2024 for PVSS.
