How fitting that a kid named Cash should receive a Kootenay International Junior Hockey League bursary.

Cash Anderson, 20, from Armstrong, is one of 11 recipients of a league bursary for the 2024-25 season. The bursary carries with it $1,000 to be used toward post-secondary studies.

He graduated from Armstrong's Pleasant Valley Secondary School in 2022 and has taken courses in Associate of Science at Okanagan College. Anderson will attend Fredonia State University in New York to study sports management, while playing for the Blue Devils men鈥檚 hockey program. 

Anderson spent his final year in the KIJHL playing the inaugural season for the Quesnel River Rush, formerly the North Okanagan Knights. The Knights were sold after the 2023-24 season and re-located to the Cariboo.

Anderson was recently named the KIJHL鈥檚 Most Sportsmanlike Player, earned a team leadership award, and was named the KIJHL鈥檚 Scholastic Player of the Year in 2023.

Away from the rink Anderson volunteered his time with his team and on his own.

With his teams, he played street hockey with elementary students, participated in a Christmas musical, read to elementary school students, helped with Special Olympics and more. During his own time, Anderson helped with a U18 hockey team, did roadside clean up, bottle and food drives for grad class, played cards with elderly people as well as tutoring.
