Armstrong's Cash Anderson of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League's Quesnel River Rush has won the league's Most Sportsmanlike Player honour.

Good things, says the superstition, come in threes.

For Armstrong's Cash Anderson of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League's Quesnel River Rush, he was first named the Most Sportsmanlike Player in the Doug Birks Division.

Then he committed to the NCAA Div. 3 Fredonia State Blue Devils in New York state to continue his career.

Now, Anderson can add that third piece of good news.

He's been named the KIJHL's Most Sportsmanlike Player.

鈥淚f you look at his minutes played, his points and then his penalty minutes, it's pretty minimal,鈥 said River Rush head coach-general manager Logan Maxwell, on why Anderson deserved the award.

The 20-year-old not only led the River Rush in points, with 24 goals and 31 assists, he did so playing a disciplined style 鈥搒pending 14 minutes in the penalty box.

The Armstrong native played an average of 21:33 a game and had a +21 rating. Nearly half of Anderson鈥檚 offence came on the power-play with 20 points, including 10 goals. He also scored once shorthanded.

In his three KIJHL regular seasons, Anderson accumulated 36 penalty minutes.

鈥淔or the amount of time he is on the ice, he鈥檚 not really doing any infractions," said Maxwell. "He plays the game the right way. He plays a full 200-foot game and he respects his opponents.鈥

Maxwell added that Anderson鈥檚 speed enables him to play and not take many penalties. He was also a leader on and off-the-ice and brought pace to practice and games.

Anderson helped the River Rush make the post-season in their inaugural season in the Cariboo, but they were swept out of the first round by the Kamloops Storm.
