Big White skiers wrap up competitive season

Zone finals in Revelstoke and Whistler Cup mark final events of season for ÁðÁ§ÉñÉç athletes

The Big White Ski Club closed out the competitive season last weekend at the Whistler Cup.

The Big White Ski Club turned in several podium and top-10 finishes at the Okanagan Zone alpine finals, March 25 in Revelstoke.

Hallie Jenkins led the Big White team with a first-place finish in both the ladies U14 GS and slalom races.

Teammate Jaxon Slaney had a solid weekend finishing 8th in GS and third in slalom.

Amy Jorgenson pulled off two top 10 finishes placing ninth in GS and fifth in slalom. Teammates Anna DeWynter, Jenelle Giebelhaus and Toni Willoughby all had strong races over the weekend.

The U14 boys were led by Luke McMillan who hit the podium twice with a third in GS and third in slalom.

Adam Fricska had two top-10 finishes while William Little found himself in the top 10 in the slalom race. The rest of the U14 men, Connor Laing, Erik Haaheim, Trystan Peter and Marco Brosseau showed strong improvement and results the entire weekend.

The zone finals is the time of year when the Okanagan Zone and BC Alpine recognizes the team of the year and the top three athletes in both the ladies and mens categories.

The U14 Big White Ski team was crowned the overall zone club champion with Hallie Jenkins taking the overall position for the ladies, closely followed by Jaxon Slaney in second spot. Luke McMillan was second overall in the Okanagan zone for the season.

The U12 team faced a real test on the steep slopes of Revelstoke, under great conditions both the U12 boys and girls had many top 20 finishes. A first time racer, Trystan Peter awarded twice with the Most Improved results.

In the U16 category Chloe Laidlaw had a sixth in GS and a 7th in Slalom while Gillian Callaghan took home a fourth-place finish in slalom. Over on the U16 Men's side, Anthony Kurkjian made the top 10 with a 5th in GS and 8th in slalom. Alex Baldassare also had a top ten finish with a 7th in slalom.

Whistler Cup…

The ski race season came to a close last weekend where eight of Big White's U14 skiers attended their last race of the season at Whistler Cup under summer-like conditions.

The Big White team was made up of four ladies and four men who qualified for this international event.

Hallie Jenkins, who was a member of the BC Team, had two top 10 finishes , while Luke McMillan finished top 15 in slalom. Jaxon Slaney, Amy Jorgenson and Ana DeWynter, Connor Laing, William LIttle, Adam Friscka skied well against some of the top competitors in the world.
