Following in his older brother鈥檚 footsteps, Jared Marino will serve as captain of the West 琉璃神社 Warriors for the 2017-18 BCHL season.
Marino, 20, has played 99 games over two seasons in West 琉璃神社, compiling six goals and 29 points along with 68 penalty minutes.
The 6-foot-3, 205-pound forward has also played in 39 career games of playoff action, between the BCHL postseason, Western Canada Cup and Royal Bank Cup.
The Niagara Falls, ON native is one of two players, along with defenseman Jake Harrison, who remains from the Warriors 2016 RBC Cup national championship team. The Warriors were captained that season by Jared鈥檚 older brother, Kyle Marino.
The new captain looks to bring his championship experience and guidance to the Warriors locker room.
鈥淚鈥檓 honoured to be named captain for such a great organization and am confident that we can once again be an elite contender,鈥漵aid the Warriors newly-minted captain. 鈥淚 have played for West 琉璃神社 for two years now under great leadership and I know I can also be a strong captain and role model on and off the ice.鈥
Warriors head coach and general manager Rylan Ferster said Marino was a natural choice to take on the club鈥檚 most important leadership role.
鈥淛ared has all the qualities that great leaders possess,鈥 Ferster said. 鈥淗e鈥檚 a good person, good teammate and always gives 100 per cent. Having been with our program through the RBC Cup, he has gotten the opportunity to be around not only a great leader and captain like his brother, but many solid leaders.
鈥淗e will represent the program on and off the ice like a pro.鈥
The Warriors will announce the remainder of their leadership group prior to main camp in late August.
