The first player in BCHL history to be granted exceptional status has made a verbal commitment to a U.S. university.

Penticton Vees forward Eli McKamey, 15, committed to the University of North Dakota, the team announced Monday morning.

The Cowichan Bay product and BCHL rookie has recorded six points in 12 games this season.

McKamey is expected to suit up for the University of North Dakota — a premier program within NCAA Division l — during the 2026-2027 season.

The 5'10", 172-pound forward is considered a top prospect ahead of the 2027 NHL draft.

McKamey was granted exceptional status in May by the BCHL, as he officially signed with the Vees. The forward came to the Okanagan after playing three seasons in the Canadian Hockey School Sports League on Vancouver Island.

He is the 20th player on the Penticton's roster to secure an NCAA Division l commitment.

McKamey and the Vees are at home for two games this weekend as they host the Blackfalds Bulldogs and Brooks Bandits in succession, on Nov. 1 and 2.
