'Giving Day' was successful for UBC Okanagan (UBCO athletics) as they raised nearly $200,000 for their 10 sports teams on Thursday, April 3.

During the 24-hour fundraising event, the teams received a total of $197,448 from more than 700 donors. The money will be spread across the UBCO teams: men's basketball, women's basketball, golf, cross country, men's rugby, women's soccer, men's soccer, women's softball, women's volleyball, and men's volleyball.

Included among the donors was the Colin and Lois Pritchard Foundation, who donated $3,000 to each team and took part in a matching challenge to celebrate UBCO's 20th anniversary. In total, the foundation donated about $68,000.

"Mirroring the outstanding performances of our teams this past season, our Heat community of support contributed to our best Giving Day ever," said UBCO Director of Athletics and Recreation Tom Huisman. "Raising nearly $200k in a single day is phenomenal and it was great to see the efforts and initiative of our student-athletes and their coaches rewarded with such a successful day. Our teams and the community really showed up and I couldn't be more proud and thankful."

Four of the 10 teams received more than $20,000, with the men's soccer squad leading all teams with $28,756.
