For the second straight year, there will not be a Kal Bowl at the Greater Vernon Athletics Park.

The Kal Bowl Society announced on Thursday, April 18 that they have cancelled the 2024 edition, due to an inability to schedule an exhibition opponent for the UBC Thunderbirds team.

鈥淭here is clearly an appetite for this type of event in Vernon,鈥 said Sean Smith, president of the Kal Bowl Society. 鈥淚t is unfortunate that after the sudden cancellation of the 2023 game due to Okanagan wildfires and now due to scheduling issues in the Canada West University Football league we are unable to offer this great event two years in a row.鈥

The Kal Bowl was started in 2022, where the Thunderbirds defeated the University of Calgary Dinos, 28-7 in front of nearly 2,000 fans. The teams were slated to battle again in 2023, before wildfires forced the cancellation of the game.

The Society added that they will continue working with the UBC football team and Canada West football to resolve any scheduling issues and to begin planning for a game in 2025.
